Described by Carlo Maria Giulini as ‘extraordinarily gifted’, Alexander Romanovsky is a riveting, individual and subtle performer with an utterly engaging voice.

At the age of seventeen, he won 1st Prize in the renowned Busoni Competition in Italy and since 2007 has released two critically acclaimed CDs on the Decca label of music by Schumann, Brahms and Rachmaninov, prompting the New York Times to commend him as ‘special, not just an extraordinary technician with a flair for color and fantasy, but also a sensitive musician and lucid interpreter.’ 

Born in the Ukraine in 1984, Alexander studied with Leonid Margarius at the Imola Piano Academy and with Dmitry Alexeev at the Royal College of Music in London. He has recently appeared as soloist both with the Mariinsky Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev in the Mariinsky Concert Hall in St. Petersburg and with the Russian National Orchestra conducted by Michael Pletnev in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, as well as with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Barbican in London and the English Chamber Orchestra.

He has been invited to major European festivals and venues including La Roque d'Anthéron in France, the Klavier-Festival Ruhr in Germany and Chopin Piano Festival in Poland, and is a frequent guest of the International Piano Festival Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli in Brescia and Bergamo, Italy. He has performed with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and toured as soloist with Vladimir Spivakov performing in Kiev, the Baltic States and France. In 2009 he was selected for representation by Young Concert Artists Trust in London.

Since moving to Italy in 1997, Alexander has appeared in venues in Turin, Bologna, Naples, Teatro della Pergola in Florence, Teatro Politeama in Palermo, the Auditorio Verdi and Teatro dal Verme in Milan and the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome. Further afield, he has given concerts in the USA and Japan.

Last season’s highlights included the debut with the Chicago Symphony and James Conlon in Ravinia and with the New York Philharmonic and Alan Gilbert in Vail, concerts at the Stresa and Colmar festivals and performances with the National Philharmonic of Russia and Vladimir Spivakov, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra and Vladimir Fedoseyev. 

This season Alexander Romanovsky opens the 25th "Master Pianists Series" at the Main Hall of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. He debuts with the Filarmonica della Scala at the Teatro alla Scala, the Hallé Orchestra at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, the Caracas Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker. He also returns to Moscow, St.Petersburg, the Auditorio Verdi in Milan, the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome and gives recitals in Bilbao, Genova, Warsaw, and Tokyo.

Descritto da Carlo Maria Giulini come “ un pianista di grande talento ”, Alexander Romanovsky si è affermato sulla scena internazionale vincendo il I° Premio del prestigioso Concorso Internazionale “Ferruccio Busoni” di Bolzano, all’età di diciassette anni. Hanno fatto seguito tre CD sull’etichetta Decca con le musiche di Schumann, Brahms, Rachmaninov e Beethoven che sono stati altamente acclamati dalla critica internazionale. Il New York Times ha definito Romanovsky “speciale, non solo possiede una tecnica straordinaria e la creatività nei colori e nella fantasia, ma è anche un musicista sensibile e un lucido interprete.”

 

Alexander Romanovsky è recentemente apparso da solista sia con la Mariinsky Orchestra diretta da Valery Gergiev nella Mariinsky Concert Hall di San Pietroburgo sia con la Russian National Orchestra diretta da Mikhail Pletnev alla Tchaikovsky Concert Hall di Mosca, come anche con la Royal Philharmonic Orchestra alla Barbican Hall e la English Chamber Orchestra. E’ stato invitato ai maggiori festival europei, tra i quali La Roque d’Anthéron in Francia, il Klavier-Festival Ruhr in Germania, il White Nights Festival di San Pietroburgo, il Chopin Piano Festival in Polonia, la Folle Journée in Francia, Spagna e Giappone ed il Festival di Stresa.

 

Nella scorsa stagione Alexander Romanovsky ha debuttato con la New York Philharmonic Orchestra e Alan Gilbert al Vail Valley Music Festival e con la Chicago Symphony Orchestra e James Conlon al Ravinia Festival; inoltre è stato in concerto con l’Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, la Royal Philharmonic Orchestra e la Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra. 

 

Nella stagione 2011/2012 Alexander Romanovsky aprirà la “Master Pianists Series” al Concertgebouw di Amsterdam, farà ritorno a Mosca, San Pietroburgo, all’Accademia Nazionale di S.Cecilia a Roma, alla Sala Verdi del Conservatorio a Milano, al Teatro Sociale di Como e debutterà con la Filarmonica della Scala, la Hallé Orchestra, la Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, la Caracas Symphony Youth Orchestra e la Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. Inoltre sarà in recital al Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, al Festival Chopin di Varsavia, a Bilbao come anche in diverse città del Regno Unito e del Giappone.

 

Nato in Ucraina nel 1984, Alexander Romanovsky comincia lo studio del pianoforte all’età di cinque anni. A tredici si trasferisce in Italia per studiare all’Accademia Pianistica di Imola con il rinomato musicista Leonid Margarius, la figura che ha maggiormente influito sulla sua formazione artistica e sul suo approccio alla musica. Nel 2009 consegue l’Artist Diploma presso il Royal College of Music di Londra.
